Our story so far...
Sunrise Bananas NZ was established in March 2018 by Ross And Karen Potter. As Dairy Farmers, they wanted to diversify their property into a banana plantation that would supply the local NZ market. Locally grown meant no food miles, no carbon footprint, no pesticides, no fungicides and no gassing for ripening of fruit. As at May 2024, just under 4 hectares of land has been planted out. Of this area, the prominent variety planted is the lady finger. These are hardy and grow well in Northland and produce delicious and dense fruit. When the premium grade and second grade fruit are not sold, they are processed into frozen and freeze dried product. From this process, the skins are composted back into the plantation.Frozen Bananas, Freeze Dried Bananas and Honey are produced on site. The bees love the banana blossom and in turn produce a unique tasting honey. The Freeze Dried Bananas are a delectable treat, rather like lollies. Local cafes use our frozen bananas for smoothies and baking delectables. Further enquiries can be directed to our Sunrise Bananas NZ instagram and FaceBook pages.
